New park in KwaThema
Residents of KwaThema, Phomolo Section have taken it upon themselves to design, build and maintain their new Asiphelimoya Park.
Resident Joyce Masuku says the aim of the park was to alleviate illegal dumping in the area as it was a problem before.
She says they patrol the park during the day and at night as the park was designed so the public can use it but safety must still remain a priority.
Masuku adds the aim of the park was so children can be monitored in one area because there have been a lot of car accidents in the area before the building of the park.
Community member Jackie Badi explains they have used their own tools to design the park using old rocks, used tires, their own machinery and plants to make the park look appealing to the public.
Badi adds their only concern for now is just fencing around their park to make the park safer against cattle that roam around in the area.
According to Badi what inspired them was the idea of living in an environmentally friendly environment.
