No water at KwaThema’s Legacy Ground

Soccer players and coaches who use KwaThema Legacy Ground for their training sessions say training there feels like training in the desert.

Ayoba-Yo-Youth Soccer Academy administration manger, Xolani Nyuleka says there has been no water at the ground since December.

He says they reported the matter to the metro, but nothing has been done about the situation.

Nyuleka says he fears that one day someone will collapse during their training sessions and there will be no water to save his life.

“The situation forces us and the players to bring water from our homes to the ground to ensure that we have water so that the players have something to drink during their training sessions,” says Nyuleka.

One of the young players who use that ground five days a week for training, Siphesihle Mdluli says not having water in the ground is a big worry to them.

Siphesihle says some of the players stopped training because they have a burden of bringing at least 5lt of water from their homes.

A community member, Thabile Mokoena also expressed her frustrations about the challenge faced by the players and the coaches using the Legacy Ground.

She says not having water at the ground is discouraging their children who want to train and become professional soccer players.

“Players and coaches cannot survive without water and if the situation is not fixed, it will slowly kill the future of our children,” says Mokoena.

No response was received from the metro by the time of going to print.
