Family hopes justice will be served

A Tsakane Extension 17 family's hope that tests would show their four-year-old daughter was not raped have been dashed (as reported in the African Reporter on February 13).

This came after the girl was taken to the doctor for a check up and the doctor confirmed that she was the victim of rape.

According to the girl’s father, they were informed by his 18-year-old stepson two weeks ago that the girl was bleeding.

The frustrated father said the boy claimed to have seen the little girl using a rusted iron nail to hurt herself on her private parts.

“Because we wanted answers, we took the girl to a doctor last week and the results confirmed that she was raped,” said the father holding back tears.

He opened a case of rape at the Tsakane police station last Thursday.

The suspect, who previously spent time in the police holding cells for theft before his release following the victim’s decision to withdraw the case against him, is expected to also face a charge of rape.

Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza confirmed that a case of rape has been opened and that the police are still investigating.
