SGB elections

The National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) will host the second largest SGB elections from March 6.

NASGB regional secretary, Tshime Stephen Pailane appeals to parents to take charge of the education of their children.

He advises parents to:

n Visit the school where their children are enrolled including former Model C schools.

n Check if their names are on the voters roll.

n As parents are governors of the school they must be in the majority.

n The elected members must complete the three year term in the office.

n Outgoing members must do the proper hand over of the job done for the past three years including contracts.

n Outgoing SGB members must assist new members in the office.

n New members must be informed about the collaboration of SGBs in the branch up to joining the associations in education matters.

He says Matthew Goniwe School of Governance and Leadership will provide training to all newly elected SGB members and the district department will also be providing in-house training.
