Men talk about abuse

Caswell Stop Men Abuse Movement hosted a prayer day against men abuse and divorce.

KwaThema community members filled the hall at the KwaThema Court where the event was held on Friday to talk about men abuse.

The ward committee members, pastors’ forum and the members of the community support programme were also present at the event to give support to the movement’s members.

Ward Councillor, George Vilakazi encouraged men to report to the police the abuse that they experience at their homes.

“It is true that there are men who feel ashamed to report abuse towards them to the police,” said Vilakazi.

He then appealed to the police to take men abuse as serious as they take women abuse.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, founder Caswell Gxowa revealed that the Kwatsaduza People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA) has officially joined his organisation to fight against women and men abuse.

“We saw the need to unite and say no to women and men abuse in our area,” said proudly Gxowa.

Amos Tshabalala delivered a key not address.

He said men do not report abuse towards them because they feel that the law only favours women.

“When a woman reports abuse, the police vehicles rush to the scene to arrest the man while they take time to attend and pay attention to a case of abuse reported by a man,” he said.

He then encouraged the married couples to talk about their problems at home to avoid abuse and divorce which he believes is the cause of the increasing number of children living on the streets.
