Community march against crime and drugs

In voicing their anger, the angry community of Tsakane marched against crime in Geluksdal, with a strong message of 'no more to drugs'.

The march was held to voice the community’s frustrations with regards the increasing number of criminal activities and the use of drugs in their areas.

Community members left their daily chores to ensure that their voices were heard.

Tsakane police, social crime prevention and the youth crime prevention desk were also part of the march.

Tsakane community marched on the streets of the township shouting for the criminals to stop crime.

One of the residents in Tsakane, Sophie Ndaba confirmed that a number of criminal activities in their area has increased.

Ndaba said she does not feel safe in her own home because of the break-ins and criminal activities that happen every night in that area.

“Residents avoid walking on the streets when it is dark to ensure their safety,” explained Ndaba.

She said she hopes that the march will send a message to the criminals who threaten the lives of many in the township.

Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza confirmed that the number of house break-in cases reported at their police station has increased.

He said the march was a good way of talking to those who do crime in the township.

Mabuza concluded by adding that both communities have promised to continue working with the police to fight crime and the use of drugs.
