Armed robbers wearing gloves robbed Selcourt business

Suspects left the scene with the stolen goods in less than 15 minutes.

A group of well organised suspects robbed a business at Selcourt Towers at 9.50am today (February 26).

It is believed that there were at least six suspects who entered the store and an undisclosed number in a waiting vehicle outside the shop.

An employee saw a man standing behind a customer he was helping, pointing a gun at the customer.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says at first the worker thought it was a toy gun.

It was only when the robber pointed the gun at the employee, that he realised it was a real gun.

The first man was quickly joined by another armed suspect who asked the employee to put all the till money into a bag.

Ramphora says another customer was robbed of her cash and cellphone.Another four armed suspects entered and pushed the rest of the employees to the back of the shop.

They demanded cash and ordered the manager to open the safe.

According to the security company they arrived exactly six minutes after the owner pressed the panic button.

It is believed the security guard arrived at the exact time the suspects were about to leave.

He was pushed inside the shop.

One of the car guards saw a white bakkie reversing closer to the entrance of the shop, but he presumed they were there to load something they had purchased.

The owner of the shop says he and his wife were rattled when the suspects entered their office.

He says when he looked at the suspects, they pointed their guns at them and order them to open the safe.

The robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery, cellphones and laptops.

Some of the suspects got into the while bakkie and left, while a security guard claims a black Toyota Corolla drove to the entrance to pick up the rest of the suspects before they drove off.

General manager of the security company Liaan Horten, believes it was a well organised robbery as it took the suspects less than 15 minutes to rob the shop.

Ramphora says the suspects also took the hard drive of the surveillance cameras.

No one was injured during the robbery.
