Metro educate residents on how to save water

Following last year's water challenges in some parts of Ekurhuleni, the metro is now embarking on a campaign to teach the community about saving water.

Today (Tuesday) the 10 members of the Lungile Mtshali were seen at each household in KwaThema educating the community about the importance of water and the easy ways to save it.

The group who were trained particularly for this campaign mainly focuses on the old sections of the township such as Riverside, Phumulo and Tornado.

Speaking about the campaign, area liaison officer Thokozani Mbonani said the campaign is also aimed at ensuring that the community receives information about where and how to report leaking taps.

“We also provide each house with water saving equipment when necessary,” said Mbonani.

One of the trained workers, Smangele Mashinini explained that the campaign will not only help the community save water, but will also help them save money where they are currently paying for the water that goes to waste everyday.

“It is true that some of the families pay money for water that they did not use but wasted as a result of leaking taps and the irresponsible use,” said Mashinini.

She believes that the campaign will play an important role in ensuring that Ekurhuleni will still have enough water in the next five years.

Resident Monica Shabangu said she is happy about the campaign.

She said she believes that the campaign will help residents to use water responsible and save it for more generations to come.

“Water is very important in our daily lives, we need to save it and use it responsibly,” Shabangu concluded.
