Deaf swimmer from Kwatsaduza is heading abroad

Chalie Skhosana (17) from KwaThema is a deaf swimmer who has qualified to compete at the international swimming championships.

According to Skhosana he began swimming at the tender age of seven.

He explains his mother discovered his talent on a holiday trip in Rustenburg when her child started floating out of nowhere in the swimming pool for hours on end.

According to Skhosana recently he was competing at the Cathy Doyle Memorila Gala in Soweto also known as the Central Gauteng Aquatics were he qualified for group B internationals in swimming.

“My breakthrough was at St Vincent School for the Deaf in Rosebank when I received an award for the best sportsmen of the year in 2010” says Skhosana.

He says he began at the Midmar Mile 2012 Swimming Competition at the Midmar Dam near Howick were he attained a silver medal then again in 2013 and last year.

He adds on Saturday he attained a bronze medal at the Midmar Mile.
