Kwatsaduza police ready to protect foreigners

Soweto’s Snake Park was in chaos last Tuesday as police swarmed the area to protect terrified foreigners who had been under attack by an angry community.

Last Wednesday morning the looting of shops owned by foreign nationals had spread to other areas in Soweto.

This attack follows an attack on foreign nationals in Tsakane last year where the foreign nationals’ tuck shop was targeted.

To ensure the safety of the victims in Tsakane, Captain Petros Mabuza of the Tsakane police explains that the police will be ready to control the situation.

He says the police worked with the members of the community and the CPF to restore peace when the attacks happened last year.

“Other residents in our communities protect the foreigners and work closely with the police,” said Mabuza.

He appealed to the community not to attack the foreigners, and to call the police if there is a problem.

“The Public Order Policing section is always ready to intervene when police intervention is needed,” said Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora.
