Sibongile Nell says she has been waiting for her identity smart card from Home Affairs since April.
She says she is having difficulty registering her children in school because they do not have birth certificates and she cannot prove that she is their biological mother without her identity card.
Nell explains that she also can’t get married to the father of her children because of this problem.
She says she has called the Department of Home Affairs Head Office who promised to help her yet failed to do so.
Customer service center official from Home Affairs Thabang Nkuna says he is aware of Nell’s problem, the matter has been reported and a plan has been devised to help her as soon as possible.
According to Nkuna the database shows that her application took long because she first applied for late registration of birth certificates which she received on March 13 last year.
He says she called on November 4 and was told the application was not successful.
Nkuna promises that the matter will be dealt with urgently.
