Duduza serenade choir rises to fame

The Duduza Serenade Choir was started at N.N Ndebele Secondary school.

Choir director Hamilton “Chillies” Motloung says it started as a school choir before they identified the need for it to become a community choir.

The choir relies on vocals and collaborates with other bands for charismatic music.

Last year the choir released a CD titled “Woza Nkosi”.

Motloung says the challenges they face include getting sponsors for big shows.

He says love, respect, and the passion the choir members have for music is what keeps the them grounded.

According to Motloung the age groups range from 18 to 35.

Motloung also says their breakthrough in the Gospel music industry happened when they used to perform for television shows.

These shows included Gospels Gold on SABC2, Imizwilili on SABC1 and Aphozion on DSTV.

He adds that they were also part of the International Gospel Awards last year and shared a stage with the queen of gospel, Rebecca Malope.

“Our ultimate dream now is to make it to the South African Music Awards or the Crown Gospel Awards” he concludes.
