Study to be a dancer

“Dance can be a career for someone who really loves to entertain,” says Mandla ‘Ignition TLK’ Sogcwayi.

Mandla ‘Ignition TLK’ Sogcwayi is a dance choreographer with ten year’s experience as well as the founder of the TLK Dancers.

To him, dancing came naturally.

He attended dance classes at Isibikwa Arts Centre during school holidays to polish his dancing skills.

He says one does not need specific subjects to study dancing at the university or college, but only the love of performing.

Sogcwayi adds that the course can be completed within six months while universities offer a four-year degree and a three-year diploma.

“When one becomes a professional dancer, you get invited to perform in other countries and get paid for that,” he said.

Speaking about what he loves about dancing, Sogcwayi says he enjoys to hear the crowd screaming for his performance.

“When on stage, a dancer needs to ensure that he dances to impress the audience,” he said.

He concluded by encouraging the youth who loves dance to study the course  to become the professional dancers.
