Two victims were shot at by a man carrying a firearm.
Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says the two friends were walking on a street in Everest at around 11.30pm on Saturday when they encountered a suspect who was carrying a firearm.
He says the suspect shot at the victims four times, killing one of them while injuring the other.
The other victim suffered injuries to his hand but managed to escape more bullets that were aimed at him.
Ramphora says the Springs police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
No arrest has been made.
