During the December holidays, the excitement fills the air to such an extent that some poeple end up doing things that will have them arrested.
Tsakane police spokesman, Captain Petros Mabuza talks about the five dumb ways people get arrested over Christmas.
Urinating in public: if a person is seen urinating in public, he gets arrested.
“Urinating in public is a crime that, if committed, one will be arrested for,” says Mabuza.
Drunk and driving: Mabuza says many drivers are arrested on Christmas Day after they have been found with an over-the-limit percentage of alcohol in their systems. “Some of the drivers do not think about their safety and those of the other road users on Christmas Day, they get behind the wheel while drunk, risking many lives on the roads,” Mabuza says.
Drinking in public: People drink in public in the name of celebrating Christmas and do not think that they are committing a crime.
He advised the community of Kwatsaduza to ensure that they drink inside their homes to avoid arrest for drinking in public.
Drunk and walking on the street: Mabuza explains that not only driving under the influence of alcohol gets one arrested, but even walking on the streets while drunk is a crime.
Domestic violence: He says most people who get arrested for domestic violence over the Christmas period are men. Mabuza explains that in most cases, the violence occurs because the man takes all the money to spend with his friends, leaving his wife and children starving at home. “When the wife demands money from her husband and denies him the right to go out with his friends, the man beats the wife who runs to a police station to report the matter and the police open a case of domestic violence and later arrest the suspect.
