Using her talent to provide for her family

Phumzile Mathunjwa (40) is using her talent to ensure that her family does not go to bed hungry.

The Tsakane resident started to use plastic to make shoes two years ago.

Mathunjwa does not have a permanent job and is fighting, through her God-given talent, to ensure that her family does not live in poverty.

She said, after realising how hard it was to get a permanent job that pays a decent salary, she decided to make employment for herself.

“I applied for many jobs with no luck of getting employed permanently,” said Mathunjwa.

She explained that she designs shoes for women, men and children.

Because of her love for her job, Mathunjwa said she takes only one day to design a pair of shoes for the adults and two pairs for children.

She said she enjoys her job because she does not have a boss and works according to her own pace without reporting to the manager.

She explained that one of the challenges that she is faced with is not having a proper place to work.

Coming from a family of fashion designers, Mathunjwa is determined to also design clothes that will be showcased internationally.

“I also want to design summer hats and bags using the plastic,” said an ambitious Mathunjwa.

She encouraged the youth to stand up and make things happen for themselves and not to wait for the government to open up jobs for them.
