Modderbee commemorates 16 days of activism

The department of correctional services commemorated 16 days of activism and World Aids Day at Modderbee management area on Tuesday.

Deputy commissioners, directors and deputy directors from correctional services across the East Rand came to raise to awareness for this day as well as the abuse of women and children.

Olivia Mothapo, communications officer at Modderbee lead the crowd into a chorus of song during the ceremony.

Inmates also attended and showed their support for the cause and both officer and inmate collaborated for the recognition of 16 days of activism.

Moiponi Makhetha, area coordinator of development and care said, “We are striving to stop the spread of HIV and we are striving to stop women and child abuse.”

The Candle of Hope was lit by Moshiyane Gloria from Modderbee Correctional Centre for those who are fighting HIV.
