New organisation helps girls

The From a Girl to a Woman organisation is a new organisation in Tsakane Extension Five that is targeted at helping young girls in the township.

The organisation, which is only two months old, has seen the need to help girl children by donating sanitary towels.

It consists of seven members who say they believe that education is the best way to a better future.

The organisation’s project manager, Nomvuyo Sebeko, said that after realising that many girl learners from disadvantaged families are forced to miss school when it is time for their periods, the organisation knew that these learners needed assistance.

“We realised that learners from poor families are absent from school for a minimum of three days a month, due to their periods,” said Sebeko.

She said one of the organisation’s dream is to see no girl child missing school because it is that time of the month.

Speaking about the challenges faced by the organisation, Sebeko said not having a place, funds and the equipment to work are the things that make doing their work of helping the disadvantaged girls difficult.

She said to help the young people realise and polish their talents, the organisation is also giving the opportunity to the up-and-coming poets, dancers and musicians to showcase their God-given talents.

“It is true that the success of other youth is through letting their talents be seen by the community,” she said.

To help donate a packet of sanitary towels to the organisation to distribute to those who need them, you can drop it at Ekfm’s offices at Faranani Multi Purpose Centre in Tsakane during office hours.
