Pay up, says metro

Delays on receiving service statements from Ekurhuleni is no reason to default on service accounts.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman of Ekurhuleni says the metro was aware of the negative impact the current postal strike on the delivery of the printed municipal account statements.

“A delayed statement is not reason enough for customers not to pay their accounts or to pay it late.” he says.

Gadebe warned residents who skip payment or pay late will reflect as an arrears on their accounts because the non-receipt of a statement does not exempt any person from the liability to pay the account.

He encouraged residents to pay similar amounts to the previous months’ statements should they not have received their current statement.

He says, besides going to the local offices to pay your account, the municipality also introduced numerous options to make accessibility of statements and payments easy.

For receiving summary statements by SMS he encouraged residents to update their contacts at the Springs Customer Care Centre.

There is also an option to pay accounts online by registering on www.e-siyakhokha.co.za or by emailing your account numbers and contact details to accountenquiries@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
