Former nurse dies
After a long battle with a heart problem, death robbed the family of their mother, Ivy Xoliswa Mathayo.
Mathayo (72) from Wright Park, died last Thursday at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
She did her primary school education at Payneville Public School and then went to Tlakula Secondary School in KwaThema.
In 1961 Mathayo started her career as a nurse at the Far East Rand Hospital until 1975.
She then joined the Struisbuilt Hospital’s health workers where she served until 1980.
She continued to work as a nurse in different health care centres until her retirement in 2004.
Mathayo was also a preacher at the Central Methodist Church in KwaThema for 10 years.
She was a member of the Thursday Women’s Manyano and also a professional dancer in her youth.
She leaves behind her son, Bishop Jabu Ndaba and daughter, Landi Ndaba.
Her funeral service will be held at the KwaThema Central Methodist Church tomorrow.
The service will start at 7am and the cortège will leave for Vlakfontein Cemetery at 9am.
