56-year-old man arrested for fraud

A man with a pending case of fraud was arrested in KwaThema on Wednesday at around 7.30pm for another fraud case.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora the suspect was wanted by the KwaThema police after a case of fraud was opened against him a few months ago.

The suspect was found at his home in possession of 29 ID books of which six contained his photo.

“He had six ID’s with his faces in but different names and ID numbers,” said Ramphora.

The suspect was also found with more than 20 credit and bank cards and pay slips belonging to employees from different companies and government departments.

When asked how he get hold of these documents, he said he got them after a man who was travelling with him in a local taxi dropped a plastic bag which he claims had these documents inside.

“I took a plastic bag thinking that it was full of money and I was surprised to find these documents inside, however I kept the documents,” said the suspect.

A case of fraud was opened against him and he is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate Court soon.
