Become an African Reporter vendor

This gives you a chance to be your own boss.

Anyone can become an African Reporter vendor and be his own boss.

Johannes Shabangu, one of the paper’s vendors for more than 30 years, confirms that being an African Reporter vendor means not having a boss to report to.

He says when he started to sell the paper many years ago, he used to sell about 80 copies every Friday, but now he has more customers who buy the paper every Friday from him next to Pholosong Hospital.

The sales for his papers increased from 80 copies to 300 copies a week.

“What I love about being an African Reporter vendor is that I make 100% profit,” says Shabangu.

Adding that the profit that he gets from the paper’s sales helps him look after his family’ needs.

Shabangu continues to say that his business is easy to run as he does not have to walk around the township but has one place where his customers find him to buy the paper.

“I also enjoy the fact that I sell something that tells our communities about the news that happens where they live,” Shabangu says.

According to the paper’s distribution coordinator, Lea-Anne Swanepoel, to become one of the paper’s vendors, one needs to fill in a registration form and bring their ID book to the African Reporter and Springs Advertiser offices at 48 Fifth Avenue, Springs and to start his business.

“There is no waiting period, once you register, you can order as many copies as you like to sell on a Friday,” says Swanepoel.

She says an exciting part of becoming a vendor is that after every six months the vendors who ordered 200 or more copies every week without missing one week, get incentives.

The six months are measured from January to June and July to December.

She says the deadline to place and pay an order for the paper is Thursday at 1pm at the paper’s front counter and that the order can be collected between 7am and 2pm on Fridays.
