Two arrested for stealing road sign pole

Two men were arrested last Monday around 10.30am for stealing a road sign pole.

Duduza police spokesman Warrant Officer Yakub Rasool says the suspects were arrested by the police and EMPD officers in the act along the Tonk Meter Road in Duduza.

He says the police, who were in a meeting, witnessed the suspects busy digging up a street sign pole and Constable Elias Tshabalala and Warrant Officer Jaco du Plooy immediately rushed to the scene and were helped by the EMPD officers who were around that area to arrest the suspects.

“The suspects confessed that they were going to sell the pole to a nearby scrapyard,” says Rasool.

The suspects are facing a charge of malicious damage to government property and theft and they are expected to appear in court soon.
