Warning: Hijackings on the rise

The hijackings and robberies happening at a traffic light at the Bakerton taxi rank are on the increase.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says about two robberies happen in that area a week.

He says the robbers see a chance to work when the car is stopped at a red light.

Ramphora continues to say that most victims of such robberies lose their personal belongings that they put on the front seat and the windows of the car are open.

“The robbers just put one hand inside the car to grab something from the front seat just a few seconds before the traffic light turns green and run away,” says Ramphora.

He advises the drivers not to open their car windows when waiting at a traffic light and also avoid having their valuable assets such as cell phones and laptops on the front seat.
