Meet KwaThema’s interim CPF committee

To ensure the fight against crime in KwaThema, the members of the Community Police Forum (CPF) have been selected.

The new interim CPF committee says they will continue fighting crime in their township.

These members are working without expecting to get paid at the end of the month.

They have dedicated their time in helping the police to ensure no crime in their community while also acting as the watchdogs for the community to fight against crime in their areas within the township.

CPF chairman Oupa Mabiletsa says the committee will ensure transparency and visibility to the community at all times.

“We will give the community enough information on what actions to take to report crime to the police,” says Mabiletsa.

One of the CPF members Lisa Mhlanga says she accepted the challenge to be one of the CPF members so as to be the nearest person that her neighbours can report to when crime occurs.

“In our communities, old people still do not know how to report crime and who to talk to when crime happens,” says Mhlanga, adding that becoming a CPF member will help many residents in the township.

KwaThema spokesman Captain Mandla Phori says the police are happy that there are people who will be their eyes and ears in the community.

“We have no doubt that the interim committee will do an excellent job in fighting against crime and creating a relationship between the police and the community,” Phori says.

Community member Nonhlanhla Khoza says she is happy that there is a new CPF committee in KwaThema.

“We now know that there are people who work with the police in our communities to help protect the residents,” says Khoza.
