Men are invited to join Round Table

'We are a fellowship organisation that gives young men of all races and creeds the opportunity to meet, to interact on a face-to-face level.'

Men between the ages of 18 and 40 are invited to join the charity organisation, Round Table.

Leigh Michael says Springs Round Table is currently being revitalised by a group of Tablers from the East Rand.

“We have members from Boksburg, Edenvale and Golden East as a stand-in council and are currently meeting once a month.”

He invited young men to join their next meeting on August 21 at Springs Old Boys’ Club at 6.30pm for 7pm.

“We are a fellowship organisation that gives young men of all races and creeds the opportunity to meet, to interact on a face-to-face level, not just through social media platforms like Whatsapp or Facebook and we teach young men, manners, respect and decorum.

“It teaches us to honour our families and to be humble in the face of our own success,”says Michael.

He says they are a fellowship organisation that crosses provinces, borders and continents. “It provides men with a platform and network that extends far beyond the reaches of our own Table Careers and Table Generations.

“This organisation provides young men with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn from their predecessors in a forgiving environment that is so unlike the unforgiving world out there,” he says.

Round Table also gives an avenue for men to undertake their perceived civic duty to do good for their communities, because the charitable cause becomes the reason for the fellowship.

“How many of you have ever experienced collecting money on the side of the road in broad daylight, dressed in a tuxedo?” Michael recalls his experience.

Service is one of the main factors distinguishing Round Table from the many other social organisations in the community and, in order to justify the existence of Table and to fulfill our aims and objects, service to the community and the attendant fund-raising projects have become very much a part of Table activity. Service work is a definite obligation of membership and participation in a reasonable number of service projects, two of them is the suggested minimum for the year in an active Table. Council must ensure that due recognition is given to Tables participation in service to the community within the official Table activities.

It is the duty of every Tabler to be awake to the possibilities for his Table to be of service to the community and to propose to his Table the acceptance of a project of which he has become aware.

The most rewarding service or fund-raising projects are those in which all members of Table are able to, and do in fact participate.

A great deal of fellowship is derived by Tablers and what better means is there of really getting to know your fellow Tablers than by working shoulder to Round Table Southern Africa is a non-political, non-denominational association of young men between the ages of 18 and 40.
