People are buying jobs at Ekurhuleni Metro.
What are the criteria for hiring council employees? This was the question Mncedisi Mabena asks.
He alleges that he has heard that people outside Ekurhuleni are paying R3 000 to get jobs.
He was concerned about the metro’s criteria in appointing new personnel.
“I started applying for the advertised posts from 2008, but to date got no response from the metro.
“At times I would send five copies of the same application hoping for an interview, but at the end nothing comes out of my application.”
Mabena says he met a man who is from the Western Cape who was recently employed by the metro.
“I asked him how he applied and to my horror he told me his father paid R 3000 to secure him a job.
“I have been looking at the metro employees when I go to town or wherever I meet them and one thing that becomes clear is that these are people who come from other provinces and districts and pay to get jobs that are open to everyone, but more importantly, the people of Ekurhuleni.”
Themba Gadebe, spokesman of Ekurhuleni has no comment on the alleged buying of jobs.
He says since the beginning of the year 1 633 of the 2 171 vacant positions in the metro were filled.
These positions are in all the departments within the metro.
He explains the criteria of the metro’s filling a vacant position: the position will be advertised in different sources of media for 10 working days.
This includes national newspapers, the Ekurhuleni Metro notice boards and on the Ekurhuleni website www. ekurhuleni.gov.za
On why the metro does not give feedback to applicants, Gadebe say Ekurhuleni does not respond to applicants in the form of a written letter, because on each job advert placed it is stipulated that should candidates not be informed of the outcome of the application within six days after the closing date, their application should be regarded as having been unsuccessful.
The Metro police Academy in Kwa-Thema Tornado section is filled with people from outside Ekurhuleni whereas there are so many people especially the youth who qualify to be accepted in the Academy, I stay in Tornado section and whithin the group that is training right now in the Academy one will never even see one person who is a Tornado resident its only those who hail from other provinces and they are only tenants here so we as the youth of Kwa-Thema demand answers from the municipality why are they not putting the people of this location as first preference when hiring for these positions or maybe those who have been accepted paid someone to be accepted, its time these people are exposed we’ve had enough now this thing of friends securing jobs for their friends or family members must come to an end now, we are tired of watching nepotism happen right before our noses, we demand answers from the municipality.
its true what they say about metro because my partner had to clean the house of the head of HR because his mom knew the lady.its so unfair to us who have what it takes to change our metro instead they give the lazybones who sleeps and demand money 2 help!!!
oh my word I KNOW A WHOLE LOT ABOUT THIS DISASTER…
1. I was told i was not an ANC Member and dont have membership
2. I applied like crazy and even tried to apply for a cleaner position just to test the system,guess what I DIDNT QUALIFY.
3.I have a Degree in Accounting and I DIDNT EVEN qualify for a CASHIER POSITION..
I emailed all the customer Care managers and their PA’s not one got back to me as i was asking why we were being sidelined fo positions that we clearly are over qualified for.
i do beleive them when they say people buy jobs, the Custome Care is appauling and this batho pele motto they have does not exist at all. you get people who dont have qualifications being managers there and i am always in awe..
*IM NOT INTERESTED IN APPLYING ANYMORE and i would rather take my skills to JOBURG that invest them back in my manicipality that is bias mxnm..
