The son who demanded money from his mother and burnt down his home in KwaThema was arrested on Thursday morning.

After burning down his home a few weeks ago in KwaThema’s Extension Three, the 29-year-old man disappeared and the KwaThema police have been looking for him since.

The man burnt down his home after he demanded money to buy sneakers from his 64-year-old mother, Nomfundo Bhaku-Bhaku, who depends on her pension money to survive.

According to KwaThema police spokesman Captain Mandla Phori the man was arrested while he was relaxing on a corner with his friends in Barcelona section.

“Despite the suspect playing hard to get, sergeant Bheki Nkosi, Mandlenkosi Khumalo and constable Tumishi Makofane have been looking for him until they arrested him when he least expected it,” said Phori.

The suspect is facing a charge of arson and is expected to appear in KwaThema Magistrate Court on Monday.
