‘We want service delivery’

The community of Tsakane Extension 12 marched to Faranani Multi Purpose Centre to submit their memorandum of grievances to MMC, Bennett Nikani.

Young and old residents of Extension 12 left their daily chores and braved the morning cold on Monday to have their voices heard.

On the list of grievances that they submitted residents were complaining about poor service delivery in their area.

Speaking on behalf of the residents community chairman, Jimmy Marema said since 1992, while other residents enjoy having RDP houses, a place that they call their homes, others are still living in their shacks with no water and electricity.

Marema said they also live in the dark as there are not enough high mast light poles in the area.

“We walk on the dark streets that make us the victims to the criminals who wait at the corner to rob residents of their cash, clothes and jewellery,” said frustrated Marema.

He said residents are also complaining about the poor standards of the roads that cost motorists a lot of money to get their car tyres fixed.

The non delivery of the mail in the area allegedly after the removal of the post boxes is one of the challenges that was included in the memorandum.

Also in the memorandum residents explained that they are not happy about the leadership style of their ward councillor, Clr Annah Mnguni.

The community gave the metro 14 days to respond to their grievances.

If they do not get a response within that period they will meet to discuss a way forward.

Responding to the unhappy community, MMC for city planning and economic development Clr Bennett Nikani promised to take their grievances to the mayor’s office to discuss with the relevant people.

“The committee deployed to work with the community’s grievances will discuss the matter and come with a solution,” said Nikani after receiving and signing the memorandum.
