Employers can now submit UIF details online

When you are retrenched, or go on unpaid maternity or sick leave, amongst others, it has always been a comfort to know that the Unemployment Insurance Fund will pay benefits.

This would at least provide some relief to compensate for the loss of income.

However, the fund needs to know exact details of employment of all contributors to ensure that correct benefits are paid out.

For this purpose, employers must declare details such as appointment of new employees, increments and termination of employment of all contributors, before the seventh of each and every month.

Therefore, it is not acceptable to wait until an employee has left employment and wants to claim UIF, to only then declare the start and end date of employment.

Employers and contributors must take note that, for this reason, Labour Centres can no longer accept UI19 forms for declarations, if they are submitted by employees who come to apply for benefits.

The UIF has created the u-filing website (https://ufiling.co.za), where employers can easily declare employment details of contributors electronically and pay their contributions over securely, to the fund.

Larger employers, who pay their contributions to the fund through SARS, can also do their declarations, by submitting their payroll electronically to the fund.

This reduces the administrative work considerably.

U-filing is a free online service which completely replaces the need to declare monthly manual UIF returns and contributions.

Through u-filing, employers (commercial and domestic), agents or tax practitioners can easily declare and pay UIF contributions online, view all declarations and contributions made, and receive notifications about future declarations.

UIF aims to increase uptake of u-filing through education and support each step of the way.

It will accomplish this by providing real time support and assistance to all u-filing customers.

A call centre has been established with trained consultants ready to take calls or e-mail.

If you have any queries, contact the help desk on: (Share): 0860 345 464 or 012 337 1680 and select option 3 for u-filing or email: ufilingsupport@uif.go.za

However, enquiries on the u-filing activation process can be forwarded telephonically to any consultant at the region/labour centre, on 011 365 3712/3/4/5.
