Free Wifi in taxis

Traveling in a taxi might soon mean access to free wifi

The South African National Taxi Association (SANTACO) is promising free Wifi in taxis.

South African commuters using the country’s most popular form of public transport such as taxis will now be able to update their facebook status, check their e-mail and surf the internet on their way to work through a free Wifi connection.

This comes after the Santaco promised to have a free Wifi in taxis. The views of Kwatsaduza residents regarding the matter are different, however they are excited about the free Wifi.

Lucas Sithole from KwaThema says this will not help him because he owns a car and does not use taxis to and from work.

“I am not against the idea because I am sure that it will make the communication of those using the taxis more easy,” says Sithole.

Adding that it is his wish that this should not only apply in taxis but should also be available to the private cars.

Tsakane resident Anna Mkhize says she is excited about what the Santaco is planning to do.

“This means that the days of struggling with the internet will soon be over,” she says.

Mkhize believes that this will not only be of the benefit to the taxi commuters but to the taxi owners as well, however she says she is worried that the taxi’s will be in a higher demand.

“Everyone will want to use a taxi which might result to long queues in taxi ranks,” she said.

Springs Taxi Association chairman, Velly Mbatha says so far they do not have the interest in this free Wifi as he says non of the association’s members understands how it will work and be of help in the taxi industry.

“Maybe if we can get someone from the Santaco to explain to us and make us see the need to have this Wifi in our taxis, maybe we might develop the interest,” Mbatha concluded.
