Drunk man damages police vehicle

Police vehicle was damaged by a drunk man

A Springs police vehicle’s windscreen was smashed by an allegedly drunk man who was resisting arrest.

According to Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon around 6pm along Welgedacht Road.

He says the police saw a bakkie with five people who were allegedly drinking beer and throwing the empty bottles through the windows, posing danger to the other road users.

Ramphora says the police immediately instructed the driver of the bakkie to stop the car.

They searched the driver and passengers and one of them was found with an unlicensed firearm.

“When the police tried to arrest the man, he resisted arrest and smashed the police vehicle’s windscreen,” says Ramphora, adding that despite the suspect’s resistance, the police eventually managed to arrest him and he was charged with malicious damage to state property.

The four passengers were released on a warning.
