Eskom restores power to affected areas

Eskom restored power to all areas affected by load shedding on Thursday night June 12.

Electricity was restored after a reduction in electricity demand was required in the early evening in order to balance the electricity system, which was implemented according Eskom’s load shedding schedule.

Eskom said in a statement, “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience to affected customers.

“While the system will be under some pressure today (Friday, June 13) and over the long weekend, load shedding is unlikely as the load is generally lower during the weekend evening peak period.

“The system is expected to remain tight into next week as well between 17:00 and 21:00 when the demand increases due to residential usage in the evenings.

“In an effort to avoid load shedding, all electricity users are urged to switch off non-essential appliances, pool pumps and geysers between 17:00 and 21:00 – especially between 17:30 and 18:30, where we see the greatest peak demand.”

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.

Eskom will continue to provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all media platforms.
