Fighting crime through sport

The KwaThema Crime Prevention Unit recently held a sports day at the KwaThema Sports Complex

Captain Mandla Phori, KwaThema police spokesman says the day was aimed at involving the community in a fight against crime while also education the youth about the consequences of being involved in crime.

The soccer teams that took part on the day are the Springs Local Football Association U/17 teams.

One of the parents, Faith Khoza applauded the action taken by the police to fight against crime.

“I believe that the involvement of the youth in activities of trying to prevent them from committing crime is the best way towards the creation of the crime free societies,” said Khoza.

Adding that there are parents who live in fear of being robbed by their children to get money to satisfy their drugs cravings.

She further encouraged young people who are already the drugs addicts to ask for help and appealed to parents and the community not to blame the drug addicts but provide them will all the support that they need to assist them beat the addiction.

Players and the supporters of Jealous Down FC went home with smiles on their faces after their team was crowned the winners after beating the ABC FC on penalties.
