‘Education is the society’s responsibility’

The Langaville Orlando Pirates Supporters' Branch donated school uniform and groceries at the KwaThema Stimulation Centre

Before donating the school uniform and groceries, the fans first sang the team’s songs, marching on the street all in the name of taking a responsibility to ensure better lives for disadvantaged children.

The brand new school uniform recipients were 20 learners from Menzi Primary School while the KwaThema Stimulation Centre received groceries that will last for more than three months.

Growing up in disadvantaged families and understanding the pain of going to school barefooted are some of the things that made the branch members donate.

They believe that the new school shoes will help protect the learners from the freezing weather during the winter season.

Hezekiel Matentshi, branch chairman said when they started the supporters’ branch eight years ago, they used ‘Amazozo Primary School’ referring to Menzi Primary School for their meetings.

“Despite the generosity that the school principal showed us, we also want to contribute towards the building of an educated nation,” said Matentshi.

Speaking on behalf of the learners, principal Ndumiso Mnguni thanked the supporters for the donation.

He said they have proved to the community of Kwatsaduza that they do not only focus on soccer but also take responsibility to bring hope to the disadvantaged learners.

Founder of the KwaThema Stimulation Centre, Mirriam Ndebele also expressed her appreciation about the donation, however she mentioned that the centre does not get enough support from the community.

Ndebele challenged the Orlando Pirates Supporters to spend this year’s Mandela Day with more than 80 children at the centre.
