Learners informed about careers

Learners gathered to hear more about different careers

Learners from around Kwatsaduza filled the KwaThema Hall on Saturday to get more information on different careers that they can choose from.

The career exhibition was organised by the two-year-old Sizar Online Video Tuturing in KwaThema.

University students and career advisers from different higher institutions of learning around Gauteng were present to give career guidance to the learners.

According to the organisation’s CEO Siphiwe Mdluli, the exhibition was aimed at ensuring that the learners have career information before choosing a certain career.

He continued to say that the exhibition will also help fight the tendency by the learners who choose careers because of the influence that they get from their friends and families.

“Many have left their jobs because in the work field they realised that they are not happy about the careers that they chose,” said Mdluli.

Public Relations final year student, Debra Miloa advised learners to do research about the careers they want to do.

She encouraged them to visit the universities and colleges to get all the information on compulsory subjects that one needs to have passed in order to enrol in his chosen course of study.

Debra also told the learners about different study bursaries and students’ loans that are available at universities.

Grade10 learner, Thabo Nkosi said the exhibition helped him decide that after completing Grade12 he will do mechanical engineering.

“I now know which subjects and the pass mark that I need in order to fulfil my dream of becoming an engineer,” Thabo said.

Sakhile Shabalala and Sipho Nyakale, learners at Tlakula High School in KwaThema also said that attending the exhibition helped them get the information that will help them choose the careers that they love and will better their lives.
