Riba family’s nightmare is over

The Riba family from section D in KwaThema's Extension three is finally in the position to also enjoy the service delivery in that area

While other residents were enjoying the development taking in that area, life for the Riba family was not the same.

The family’s misery started a few months ago after the construction of the RDP toilets for each household as part of delivering services to the people.

According to Sydney Riba his family was told that the toilet was built in the wrong place by a man who claimed to be a member of the ward committee.

He says the man told him that his toilet overlapped onto a portion of land belonging to his neighbour and that it made it impossible for other services to be delivered both to his yard and that of his neighbour.

“The toilet made it impossible for the installation of a water meter in both my yard and that of my neighbour,” said Riba.

Following the appearance of the family’s story on the April 18 in the African Reporter “Development creates frustration”, the ward councillor, Wilson Busakwe visited the family last Tuesday to discuss the matter with them.

The two parties agreed that the toilet be demolished and rebuilt on a right place.

“It took only two days to rebuild the toilet and the family is happy,” said Busakwe.

The man alleged to be one who instructed the Riba family to demolish their toilet, Eric Mgqineni explained that during the development he worked with the surveyors.

He said three days after the Riba family’s toilet was built they noticed that the toilet was in a wrong place and that they notified the constructor about the problem.

He said the decision to demolish the toilet was discussed with the family, the constructor and the surveyors and that the family did not oppose the decision taken.

“I am also happy for the family that their toilet nightmare is over,” concluded Mgqineni
