Exhibiting their creations

sewing to make a living

After months of training, 16 members of Masingitha art and craft walked through the streets of Kwathema and Springs on Friday, parading their Zulu regalia.

The students, who are unemployed youth, disabled people and pensioners, were trained in making African attire, and were all wearing their finished products.

Founder and chairperson of the NGO, Jennifar Mathibela, says she trains people with the aim of giving them a skill, which they can use to make a living.

Another teacher, Regina Makazi, says being involved in an accident forced her to stay at home, and it was that unfortunate incident in her life that led to her registering for an art and craft training.

“I teach people art and crafts because there is a lot that a person can do with their hands,” says Regina.

The group’s public appearance started from Masimini section to Mthembu village, where their transport picked them up and they continued in Springs CBD.
