Metro police officer attacked

An on-duty metro police officer was attacked while controlling the traffic.

The officer was attacked at the corner of Xhosa and Ndabezitha streets in Tsakane on Saturday, allegedly after he allowed a hearse and family vehicle to pass as there was a funeral service.

According to the EMPD spokesman Superintendent Vusi Mabanga, the officer was attacked while controlling the traffic at that intersection.

Mabanga says incidents of metro officers being attacked have become too frequent an occurrence, especially by the members of the public.

He says a case of assault, reckless and negligent driving was opened for further investigations. Tsakane police spokesman Captain Petros Mabuza also confirmed the incident and that a case has been opened.
