Senior math learners from Phandimfundo Secondary School in Daveyton, have the priviledge of being taught by the province’s number one teacher for maths.
Magdelina Mathunjwa was also recently awarded at the National Teaching Awards 2013, held in Birchwood Hotel on March 6.
She came fourth in the math category, competing with teachers from all nine provinces.
Magdeline says her national award is her biggest highlight since she started teaching 27 years ago.
“The award also looks at the contribution you have made outside your school,” explains the teacher.
She says she attends camps with matriculants from other schools, “I have taught in Delmas and Soweto and am proud to have contributed to the 82% 2013 maths pass rate, received by the first matric group from Dalpark High School.”
Magdelina says mathematics is her life, and she finds herself calculating the degree that someone opens a door and sometimes finds it hard to decide which mathematical shape to cut her bread.
Another proud moment for Magdelina was producing the top South African learner Thabang Maepa, who achieved 99% for maths in 2012.
Magdelina believes this is a gift from God, which she needs to pass forward.
“My wish is to open a maths academy and publish a study guide where I will share all my methods, all I need is the right guidance and direction,” concludes Magdelina.
