Family fears for their lives

Nights seem to be too long for the Dladla family in Langaville Extension Seven as their RDP house's roof can be blown away by wind at any time.

According to gogo Lucy Nomgqibelo Dladla (75) who lives with her three grandchildren and a son, her life in her house is a misery.

She says when her house was first built around 1998 it was found that the house had cracks and was demolished and then rebuilt in 2008.

She says despite the fact that she and her family had to spend many years in an RDP house that put their lives at risk, the pain seems not to end.

Dladla says since her house was rebuilt its standard was not good, as the roof started to leak few days after it was finished, damaging the walls and the house’s main door.

Dladla claims that her family informed the ward councillor Mamvimbi Ivy Nkosi, who promised to attend to the matter.

“All I need is a decent RDP house where my family can live in peace without fearing for their lives every minute there is strong wind ,thinking that the house’s roof will be blown away,” says a worried Dladla.

In her response, Nkosi says people who got RDP houses also need to maintain them, however, she says if one experiences any problems regarding their RDP houses, they must at all times feel free to visit the relevant offices to report the problem.
