Springs business robbed

Crime briefs are being given by Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora.

A business was robbed in the early hours of last January 23.

A man was in his shop in Third Street, Springs CBD helping a customer when two armed men entered.

Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora says it was at 8.45am, when the owner and the customer were ordered to lie on the ground.

“The owner then noticed another two robbers guarding the door,” says Cpt Ramphora.

The two thieves assaulted the owner while he was on the ground.

“They took cash from the tills and the customer’s cell phone and left the shop,” adds Ramphora.

No shots were fired.

* A woman was asleep in her bed at home in Kruger Street, Geduld Extension, when she heard something at her bedroom door and noticed two men in her bedroom.

At 7.30am, last Thursday, the two robbers entered a woman’s bedroom and ordered the woman to keep quiet.

“They took her cell phone and locked her in her bedroom,” says Cpt Ramphora.

He adds after a while her son came to rescue her from the bedroom and that is when the victim noticed the safe door was open.

The robbers took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe, a Kruger rand and Mandela rand.

They left the scene in a blue Toyota Corolla.

* At 9pm, last Thursday a woman arrived at home and parked in front of the gate of Cloverfield Road, Dersley.

Cpt Ramphora says she got out of the vehicle to open the gate, but found it to be locked.

“She went back to the car to get her cell phone to phone the people in the house to open the gate for them, when she saw a red BMW stopped behind her car,” says Cpt Ramphora.

Two men approached her vehicle and one knocked on the driver’s side window with a firearm, while the other robber opened the driver’s side door and ordered her to get out.

Cpt Ramphora says the woman struggled with the robber when a third robber came to assist.

She landed on the tarred road.

The next door neighbour saw what was going on and came to the woman’s rescue, but the robber fired a shot.

A second shot was fired and the neighbour as well as the victim ran to the house.

The robbers left with the woman’s car, two cell phones and a wallet containing all the victim’s personal cards.

No-one was injured.

* A business robbery took place in Geduld Road, Geduld on Friday.

A man was working in his shop at 2.30pm, when he noticed three men enter with one of his employees.

“He was under the impression they were clients, but soon realised they were not, when all three of them pulled out firearms,” says Cpt Ramphora.

They ordered the owner and his employee to lie down and tied them both up with cable ties.

The robbers took two cell phones, a mini laptop and the gate keys and left.

No shots were fired.

* A house was robbed at 4.30am on Friday.

According to Cpt Ramphora the man went to the kitchen, while his girlfriend was still in the bedroom, when he saw three men in his house.

Two were armed with firearms and the other robber was armed with a wheel spanner.

“They tied both victims up with coat hangers and covered the man’s head with a blanket,” says Cpt Ramphora.

The robbers took a TV, a laptop, the man’s wallet with his ID, clothes and cash.

Cpt Ramphora adds the man managed to untie himself and went to the bedroom to help his girlfriend.

He then went to the next door neighbours to phone the police.

No shots were fired.
