2014 matric results

As the country celebrates the highest matric pass rate since the dawn of democracy, schools in KwaThema are patting themselves on the back as they all managed to score higher than the previous year.

Phulong Secondary School is still leader of the pack with 90.98%, up from 82% in 2012.

The school had 123 learners writing their final exams and only 12 failed.

They managed 13 distinctions, 56 bachelor degree exemptions, 43 diploma exemptions and 12 higher certificates.

Zimisele Secondary School had 136 learners sitting for exams and they obtained an 86% pass rate, an improvement from 76% in 2012.

They received six distinctions from the 117 learners who passed.

The school has 45 bachelor degree exemptions, 46 diploma exemptions and 26 higher certificates.

Nkumbulo Comprehensive School increased its results from 58% in 2012 to 62% in 2013.

Out of the 189 learners who wrote, 45 of them failed.

Tlakula High School has 20 distinctions, the highest number in KwaThema.

They achieved 82.68%, up from 80% the previous year.

Fifty-one learners obtained bachelor degree exemptions, 62 received diploma exemptions and 35, higher certificates.

Thirty-one learners failed in a group of 180.

Lifa-Ifa High School attained a 72% matric pass rate, a climb from 70% in 2012.

The school had 123 matriculants and 36 of these failed.

They managed three distinctions, 15 bachelor degree exemptions, 45 diploma exemptions and 25 higher certificates.

Kenneth Masekela Secondary School is hot on the heels of the leaders, recording 90.3%, a climb from 76% in 2012.

Only 17 learners failed from the 196 who wrote their exams.

Laban Mothlabi Comprehensive School was not to be out-shone as they also pulled up their socks, moving from 76.76% in 2012 to 89.79% in 2013. They managed six distinctions and 36 bachelor degree exemptions.
