OPINION: What makes a good father?

African Reporter readers have their say on what qualities they feel make a good father.

Gladys Ngwenya: “Supportive to his children. Providing them with food, shelter and clothes. You can’t just call them your children and have nothing to show for it.”

Dimakatso Motsoeneng: “A father who is there all the time. Someone who takes his children to school activities and cheer them on. It is beneficial for him to be financially stable.”

Sindi Mokoena: “Someone who spends time with his family, not just for money. He is a protector, someone who checks if something falls around the house.”

Zanele Nkosi: “Supportive, and setting a good example for his children. Someone who is respectful to other people. And generally loving.”

Lungile Ntuli: “A good father is someone who is there for his whole family. Someone who does not show favouritism but attends to all the members of his family with the same effort.”

Xabiso Skiti: “Someone who can build a strong root for his relationship with his children. So that when they go through challenges they can be sustained by the connection.”
