KwaThema man’s own organic soap is ‘best for your skin’

Purrera organic soap manufactured in KwaThema.

KwaThema – Mohlomi Makhetha found a gap in the organic soap market and took full advantage of it.

After completing his mechanical engineering qualification, the 27-year-old says he knew he wanted to be his own boss.

“I did a lot of research to find something I can manufacture and I hit on organic soap.”

But he says his intentions for starting the business have now changed.

“For me, it is no longer about making money, but educating people.”

Most hard soaps are filled with chemicals such as sodium hydroxide which can be very harmful to the skin.

“People are becoming more and more aware of harsh chemicals in products and food they use daily.

“And they are drawn more and more to organic products, like this soap,” he adds.

Mohlomi says Purrera is made of 100 per cent coconut, jojoba, olive and avocado oils.

“By using organic soap you might be able to avoid, or at least reduce the skin problems, caused by irritating chemical ingredients.”

He says unfortunately many people wait until an itchy and dry skin becomes a problem before making the switch to natural soap. And he makes this natural soap from his very own kitchen.

“I cook the mixture on a normal stove.

“Of course, after some trial and error, I have found the best way to do it,” he jokes.

Mohlomi has recently won a contract to supply two guest houses with his product.
