Sunday Cookout: a platform for entrepreneurs

Sunday Cookout takes its first shot in 2018 in KwaThema.

KwaThema – Sunday Cookout had its first installment of the year at Bahama Bar last Sunday.

Many would say that Kgopolo Mantsho’s Sunday Cookout has popularised the street market scene in Kwatsaduza.

“Sunday Cookout, the movement was born in 2014 September in KwaThema, so this is really ‘coming back home’,” explains Kgopolo.

He says that the idea was brought about by the fact that although his first partner was a chef, and still is, most people didn’t know his occupation.

“It got me thinking how many other young people in Kwatsaduza own their own businesses but the community doesn’t know about them, so I wanted to bridge the gap.”

Kgopolo then created a platform for entrepreneurs (chefs, fashion designers, graphic designers, visual artists, musicians) where they could express themselves and reach their target markets.

He says that initially, people did not catch on to the idea.

Now it is the meetup session for the ‘coolest kids’.

“I wanted them to be free and not feel judged because they will be around like-minded peers, a place for them to show off their crafts and skills.”

Last September Sunday Cookout celebrated its third birthday with a star-studded lineup at Endaweni – The Place, Geluksdal.

Kgopolo encourages entrepreneurs to book stalls for the session before it’s too late.
