Elderly organisation pamper pensioners

Ratanang Elderly Organisation showed KwaThema pensioners some love in celebration of the month of love at Holiness Church on Wednesday.

KwaThema – The Ratanang Elderly Organisation celebrated the month of love by pampering pensioners at Holiness Church, last Wednesday.

Nomvula Sibonyoni, the organisation’s founder says they always aim to make pensioners feel special.

“People often make plans to express their love to those close to them.

“But we often forget about our grandparents.”

The fund-raiser is part of Nomvula’s dream to create more activities for pensioners.

“Today we have catered for well over 60 of them.

“I wanted to show them how special they are and that they are our role models.”

As part of the day’s events was a pageant for those who were keen.

“Moving forward, we want to get a place to keep them during the day, a centre.

“And we are still struggling to secure funding to do such.”

Zandile Shabalala, who has been assisting Nonhlanhla since the establishment of the organisation, explains that the course helps her too.

“Those of us who don’t have parents receive their love as we care for them.

“It all comes from the bottom of our hearts and we hope that anyone who has the capacity to help us will do so.

“The group is growing at a fast rate, but we are still very open to receiving new members.

“We also encourage family members to sign up on their behalf.”

The duo does home visits to recruit potential members.

The crew encourages other pensioners to contact them and be part of their initiative.
