Community safety patrollers caught red-handed drinking on the job

19 patrollers from the community safety department of the KwaThema SAPS were seen behaving inappropriately.

KwaThema – On January 19 patrollers from the community safety department of the KwaThema SAPS were seen behaving inappropriately at Duduza Taxi Rank.

“Instead of performing their prescribed duties in the identified hotspots, they would sit in an on-site liquor outlet and drink the whole day and report off duty in the afternoon,” explains Samson Madi, Ekurhuleni east cluster community relations co-ordinator.

Members of the public took photos of the patrollers and their superiors got wind of it.

Four patrollers were expelled from the project with immediate effect.

“The community chose these people to represent them and they have betrayed the community’s trust.

“We had to deal with the matter accordingly,” says Capt Thabo Sibuyi of KwaThema Police Station.
