Ekurhuleni honors gospel artists

Faranani Multipurpose Centre was the venue to host the first-ever Kwatsaduza Community Gospel Awards ceremony on Saturday night.

Ward Clr Desmond Buitenbacht commended the Kwatsaduza Community Development Forum for hosting the event in Tsakane.

“People do not take events like this one seriously unless they happen in Sandton.

“I am grateful that you had it here and all these people honoured the invitation,” he says.

He also encouraged the artists to continue doing good work in the community.

“Today is all about honouring ordinary people who have done extraordinary work.”

Master of ceremony, Sphumi Mabena, says Ekurhuleni is fortunate to have a mayor who loves God.

“Clr Mzwandile Masina supports initiatives that uplift the community and spreads the gospel,” he says.

Pearl Sekgobela, the event’s organiser, says the Kwatsaduza Community Development Forum was created out of a desire to help non-profit organisations.

“Most of us drive to work every day and we give our best efforts in jobs where we are just numbers.

“If they lose you, they can replace you in no time.”

She believes that if we help our neighbours, who need us more, we would be making a permanent contribution.

“Let’s work together and help each other with the resources we have.”

The forum will soon introduce a new program called ‘skill givers’.

“In the project, everyone can sign up to mentor people in the same field and help them grow.

“I hope we will all sign up when the time comes,” she adds.

Two of the night’s biggest winners were Wandile Nkosi, who won ‘Best Song’ for PapaO, and Timothy Sibanyoni who won ‘Best Song Writer’ and ‘Overall Musicianship’.
