Youth help the physically challenged to be more employable

KwaThema – Millicent Mazibuko, founder of Our Future, will host an event focusing on physically challenged youth.

After organising an event to give the youth a platform to ask employers relevant questions, Millicent says she realised that disabled youth are often marginalised.

“Not having a qualification poses a great challenge, but having a disability is a challenge that we often neglect.”

She believes there are many disabled people who are unemployed and have no idea how to access available opportunities.

“We will make an extra effort to accommodate challenges that are specific to them.”

Millicent has invited Nontsindiso Mfuduka from Harambe to educate the youth on the programme they offer.

“Harambe shows job seekers how to become more employable.

“We look at everything from interviewing skills to work readiness.”

She says they have a programme that deals with equipping physically challenged people.

“We also want to invite people to bring their CVs on the day.

“We will create applications for them on the system,” explains Nontsindiso.

Shanty Moloto, an HIV/Aids activist, will also take the opportunity to shine the spotlight on issues of prevention and new infections.

Millicent says they will be handing out food parcels for those with physical disabilities.

The youth empowerment and prayer session will take place on December 15, at Church of England, Walaza Street, KwaThema.
